This area is composed of steep hillside bordering a stream running down to the James River. The area is covered in hardwood forest and includes a large beech stand. The trees in the this stand, as in the case of the ones in the stand on the Russell Woods preserve, are part of an ongoing research project on beech growth and productivity.
