IMG_3144s

The Russell Woods preserve borders Rt. 29 south of Lynchburg. It can be reached through a wayside on the northbound side of Rt. 29. Laurel and rhododendron cover much of the southern end of the preserve. A stand of beech is present on the northern end and this stand is the focus of an ongoing research project on beech growth and productivity. The preserve is marked by a large sign on the fence adjoining the wayside. A stone marker can be found inside the preserve.
